Opal Estelle McMinn Howard
Born January 19, 1917, Lockney, Texas
Entered into Rest June 28, 2007, Seal Beach, California

A strong-willed “don’t mess with me” Texas farm girl with a terrific sense of humor, our dear Opal was, as her name implies, a multi-faceted jewel of great beauty and depth. She could be counted on to lend a helping hand, with care and compassion, be it for an individual in need, or for worthy community activities.
During World War II, Opal worked as “Rosie the Riveter” at a Texas military aircraft manufacturing plant. Here in Seal Beach, she was well known for her gardening, culinary and organizational skills.
Opal put her leadership talents to good use as a dedicated board member of the Women’s Club of Seal Beach, gardening club and sewing club. Opal was a master seamstress. She was a pollster, school board member, school crossing guard, Girl Scout mom, Little League mom, band mom and drill team mom. If that sounds like a lot of mom, she was!
